Discover Higher Taste Hare Krishna

If you're on the hunt for a delicious, soul-nourishing meal in Wellington, you should definitely check out Higher Taste Hare Krishna located at 138A Lambton Quay, Te Aro, Wellington 6011, New Zealand. This charming vegetarian diner brings a fresh twist to plant-based dining, focusing on health-conscious, flavorful dishes rooted in traditional Indian cuisine with a modern flair.

When you step into the cozy, welcoming space of Higher Taste Hare Krishna, you're immediately struck by the peaceful vibe and warm atmosphere. The restaurant prides itself on offering wholesome meals that cater to both your taste buds and your well-being. As a frequent visitor myself, I can say the food consistently delivers on both fronts-balanced, flavorful, and made with care.

The menu at Higher Taste Hare Krishna showcases an impressive array of options, from hearty curries and rice dishes to fresh salads and vibrant lentil stews. Their famous “Daily Specials” are a great way to experience something new each day, with seasonal ingredients and traditional flavors that transport you to India with every bite. One of my personal favorites is the classic “Dal Tadka”-a delicious, comforting lentil dish served with basmati rice and a side of warm chapati bread. It’s simple, yet utterly satisfying.

For those with dietary preferences, the restaurant goes above and beyond, offering a variety of vegan and gluten-free options. The “Vegan Pakoras” are a standout for me-they’re crispy, light, and paired with a tangy mint chutney that enhances their flavor. There’s also a wide selection of beverages to complement your meal, including fresh fruit juices, herbal teas, and the ever-popular mango lassi.

What truly sets Higher Taste Hare Krishna apart from other vegetarian restaurants is its commitment to using high-quality, organic ingredients. Everything is made with care, from scratch, ensuring a clean, fresh taste that you can feel good about. The staff are friendly and always happy to explain the menu or recommend dishes based on your preferences, adding a personal touch to the overall dining experience.

This sense of community is something special, and you’ll find that many of the regulars come not only for the food but for the overall atmosphere.

Moreover, the restaurant takes pride in serving dishes that are designed to support overall health and well-being. They adhere to Ayurvedic principles, emphasizing the importance of balance in the food we consume. As a result, you won’t find overly rich, greasy dishes here. Instead, you'll find meals that are light, fresh, and full of vibrant flavors that not only satisfy your hunger but leave you feeling energized and content.

  • An extremely clean restaurant in the heart of Wellington serving high-quality vegetarian/vegan food. They offer two varities of buffet: vegetarian and vegan. Found the restaurant to have a nice ambiance with a large seating area. They are a self-service restaurant and although there were a la carte options, buffet seemed to be the one to go for. It appeared to be one of the more popular restaurants in the area during lunch time on weekdays. Highly recommend a visit to this restaurant if you are in Wellington and if hygienic vegetarian/vegan cuisine appeals to your palate.

  • I loved this restaurant as I’m coming first time to this place. The staff Govu Sundar chef, as well as he was service staff as well. Govu Sundar was extremely good with his cooking skill and serving skills. He was the only one attended us. I strongly recommend this restaurant for everyone out there to experience Authentic taste of Indian food. I have tasted before but this is pure Indian taste. Govu Sundar is the great asset for this restaurant.

  • An ideal place for serving yourself with a hint of flavor from India. The buffet options are limited to vegan and vegetarian but both have good food quality and taste. If you want noodles and fried rice with more Indian style curry choices, vegan section will be good. Otherwise I found the vegetarian section really satisfying with fresh salad. The place itself is clean and staff are friendly.
